Kara Çorba is a type of chicken soup produced in Pınarbaşı District of Kastamonu Province and its affiliated villages. The soup's name and distinctive color come from the measles sour added during cooking, which is traditionally produced in the region. Measles sour is made from the fruits of the measles plant (Berberis vulgaris), which grows endemically in the area. This soup, traditionally consumed in the winter months, owes its distinctive characteristic to the measles sour used in its composition. Kara Çorba is a geographically indicated value of Pınarbaşı.
